The Right Spin

by Chiefs

Since I’ve already written more about Trent Green than any other person on the planet — well, maybe not Chris — I’m going to try to make this short and bitter. Especially since our new prize free agent acquisition, Bankmeister, already came strong with it.

Don’t cry for Trent Green — the way this went down was primarily his fault. He flat out played like shit last season and then was outraged that the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t want to reward him a cool $7 Mil for his suspect-at-best play. Poor, Trent. There are people who work just as hard as you do that aren’t even compensated seven dollars an hour, or something like that. When you forced the Chiefs to trade you to the team of your choice, you forced Carl Peterson to hold out and play hardball with the hopes of getting the best compensation possible.

Carl Peterson (photo credit: nfl.com)And that’s exactly what Peterson did. We should be praising King Carl, instead of undertaking in the same old, tired Carl bashing or even launching preemptive strikes against him like my man Jabba did. Seriously, Jason Whitlock hates Peterson to such an extent that he’d rather bash him for something that might go down in the future than praise him for the present.

I’ve heard of hating, but pre-hating? Who is he, Doc Brown? Does he have a flux capacitor and a Delorean? How does he already know that Peterson is going to botch the Larry Johnson situation? Especially when he just handled his biz with Trent “Tears” Green.

Whitlock is just ridiculous — he actually blamed Peterson for the team’s playoff losses. Now, not making the playoffs, you can blame a GM for that. Once a team has made the playoffs, however, at that juncture the GM has done their job and should be off the hook. Winning in the postseason is something that falls more on the shoulders of the coaches and players, especially in the NFL’s 12-team playoff system.

I feel the same way about anybody bashing Peterson right now. The guy just bamboozled the Miami Dolphins out of a likely fourth-round pick when they wouldn’t even give up a sixth not too long ago. Hell, that’s what the Tennessee Titans received for Steve McNair last season, and he was a healthy ex-MVP. The Peterson bashing is just getting old right now. A GM’s job is to fill the seats and get their team into the playoffs, which he’s done time and time again during his tenure. You can’t blame Peterson for the Chiefs not winning the Super Bowl — he’s not calling the plays or failing to execute said plays. Especially when you consider that the Hunts, God bless them, haven’t exactly been Daniel Snyder or Jerry Jones spending-wise. I’m not saying the Hunts are/were cheap. What I’m saying is that Carl has been somewhat hamstrung financially compared to other GMs.

We here at Arrowhead Addict want to take a minute to praise King Carl. He had a great draft; he miraculously traded Dante, Sims and Tynes for something; he had a great free agent class; he’s cut all the right guys (except for G-Wes); and now he got us what will likely be a fourth-round pick for a washed-up concussion case.

Bravo, King Carl. That’s all I have to say.

btw Carl isntr going away he is the next president when his contract is up he takes Steadmans job!yes thats correct Steadmans job is KING CARLS!remember Steadman who didnt allow Levy to draft Marino, do you know what that would have done for this team... we had recievers then and a defence on the making that became one of the best... STEADMAN screewed us before just as Carl has.

same reason as with SIMMS fat lady sang along time ago SIMS

makes sence.  but we do have a lot of lb's now.  how many did they carry on the 53 last year?  now we have at least 6 that should be for sures, and a couple others who might deserve spots.

Guys the reason why Bell has not been cut is that it will cost more to cut him than keep him. So they have decided to give him another year because they would rather have him on the roster and pay him less than if he was off the roster. Simple as that...

I for one am losing my support of King Carl.  Not so much for recent moves but given the longevity of his position and the results.  This may be premature and I'm willing to go through the transition for a few more years, but I'm hopeful that the passion Lamar had for a Super Bowl and the loyality to the fans carries over to his children. I know Carl is loyal to Herm and as far as I'm concerned if Herm can't get this done in the next few years, both Herm and Carl need to be shown the door by the Hunt Family.  The Lamar trophy has been out of KC for too long.  I will say that the youth movement is in line with what the rest of the AFC West is doing and the approach thus far appears to be an effective transition to a youth movement while putting what should be a competitive team on the field.  That said, the Green trade frees up cash to keep LJ and Jared Allen in a chiefs uniform for a while and at the same time, there are some additional draft choices starting to stockpile for next years draft.  That does free up some flexibility to move up the board if need be.  Brodie is key to Herm and Carl as to the ability to find a talent to lead.  Granted it's still too early to see how Brodie will play out, but Todd Blackledge was the last grooming effort at the QB spot and that never panned out.  That was a Carl failure that took the team years to recover.  I watched the mini-camp on the NFL network and Brodie does have a cannon, but can he lead this team and take us to the promised land?  time will tell.

matt millen, the proof yeilding schollar that picking the right Wideout doesnt always workout or the QB for that matter...lol

Absolutely, big_chief87  -- he could be Matt Millen or a lot of other front office imbiciles.

I was at the game in San Diego. I agree that he needs to be cut, but the guys that I really wanted gone -- Hicks, Knight, Sims and Tynes -- have been removed, so I'm cool with him getting another chance. Especially since Gunther seems to be on borad.

If only Peterson could trade G-Wes, then this off-season would truly be perfect. Unless he's a miracle man, I don't see that happening. Do the Panthers really want that bum?

Carl just seems to rub people the wrong way.  not too many people seem to like him, and i agree, there are a bunch of things i think i would do differently, but i think it's different when you are actually in his possition.  every move he makes is going to please someone, and upset someone else.  bottom line is, he could be much worse.

nope we let him go because we had a player playing NFL Europe , we could keep for less money, than Edwards. Herman wasnt using his system yet, when we let T. Rich go, .....last year was the same system, and we now have three Fullbacks not one...loland then there is Ty Law , ty isnt good enough the year before but now he is.No way on BELL.......DID YOU SEE ALL THE PLAYS LAST YEAR WHEN HE JUST STOOD THERE AND DIDNT EVEN MOVE TOWARD THE PLAY........NO EXCUSES, WE WATCHED AS HE STOOD THERE!Go back and watch the San Diego game again, at least five times he watched the play happen.Bell needs to be CUT.

His jersey is a suit. It has to be as a CEO/President-type official. He's not just a GM.

That's hilarious about the paint, though.

I always thought Edwards was more of a Greg Robinson/Dick Vermeil thing.

As for T-Rich, yeah, but he's old. Maybe Carl thought he was washed up? Or maybe the Hunts said that's too much to spend on a fullback? Or maybe Herm said that fullbacks aren't that important in his system?

It's real easy to always blame the GM.

With Bell, let's give him a chance as a situational pass rusher now that he has better talent around him and less expectations.

but your correct in that he does his job, he fills the seats.

Stop right there I can bash him for not spending $500,000 on Richardson, I can blame him for letting Edwards leave in the first place, I can blame him for not cutting BELL yet, I can blame him if I want to.***** I can blame him for wiping off the red paint which happened to transfer onto his hand from mine when we shook hands last year ...back onto my CHIEFS JERSEY!!!!!!!!*****, kidding there...lol.........not really where is his pride in the chiefs have you ever seen him wear RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
