Since I’ve already written more about Trent Green than any other person on the planet — well, maybe not Chris — I’m going to try to make this short and bitter. Especially since our new prize free agent acquisition, Bankmeister, already came strong with it.
Don’t cry for Trent Green — the way this went down was primarily his fault. He flat out played like shit last season and then was outraged that the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t want to reward him a cool $7 Mil for his suspect-at-best play. Poor, Trent. There are people who work just as hard as you do that aren’t even compensated seven dollars an hour, or something like that. When you forced the Chiefs to trade you to the team of your choice, you forced Carl Peterson to hold out and play hardball with the hopes of getting the best compensation possible.
And that’s exactly what Peterson did. We should be praising King Carl, instead of undertaking in the same old, tired Carl bashing or even launching preemptive strikes against him like my man Jabba did. Seriously, Jason Whitlock hates Peterson to such an extent that he’d rather bash him for something that might go down in the future than praise him for the present.
I’ve heard of hating, but pre-hating? Who is he, Doc Brown? Does he have a flux capacitor and a Delorean? How does he already know that Peterson is going to botch the Larry Johnson situation? Especially when he just handled his biz with Trent “Tears” Green.
Whitlock is just ridiculous — he actually blamed Peterson for the team’s playoff losses. Now, not making the playoffs, you can blame a GM for that. Once a team has made the playoffs, however, at that juncture the GM has done their job and should be off the hook. Winning in the postseason is something that falls more on the shoulders of the coaches and players, especially in the NFL’s 12-team playoff system.
I feel the same way about anybody bashing Peterson right now. The guy just bamboozled the Miami Dolphins out of a likely fourth-round pick when they wouldn’t even give up a sixth not too long ago. Hell, that’s what the Tennessee Titans received for Steve McNair last season, and he was a healthy ex-MVP. The Peterson bashing is just getting old right now. A GM’s job is to fill the seats and get their team into the playoffs, which he’s done time and time again during his tenure. You can’t blame Peterson for the Chiefs not winning the Super Bowl — he’s not calling the plays or failing to execute said plays. Especially when you consider that the Hunts, God bless them, haven’t exactly been Daniel Snyder or Jerry Jones spending-wise. I’m not saying the Hunts are/were cheap. What I’m saying is that Carl has been somewhat hamstrung financially compared to other GMs.
We here at Arrowhead Addict want to take a minute to praise King Carl. He had a great draft; he miraculously traded Dante, Sims and Tynes for something; he had a great free agent class; he’s cut all the right guys (except for G-Wes); and now he got us what will likely be a fourth-round pick for a washed-up concussion case.
Bravo, King Carl. That’s all I have to say.
