The next Big Will?

AUTHOR: Adam Best | IN: Chiefs | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Brad Kuhbander of the official Kansas City Chiefs website looks at young T Will Svitek in this week’s “This Week in Chiefs History”. Svitek was a dominant force last year in NFL Europe, helping the Frankfurt Galaxy win a championship and RB Roger Robinson set the single-season record with 1,087 rushing yards.

After further researching Svitek , I found his story to be an amazing one. When he was two his parents fled communist Czechoslovakia with Will and his two brothers. They left everything behind and lived in a refugee camp in Austria for about eight months, before finally being granted entry into the United States.

At Svitek’s size, he’s now 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, discovering football was inevitable. He eventually ended up playing mostly at defensive end at Stanford. Considering that information, paired with the fact that OT is one of the most difficult positions to play in the NFL, you can see why Svitek has needed time to develop. He may need more time yet, but before you dismiss the Czech giant consider this — Brian Waters once was an NFL Europe standout.

Will Svitek’s only 25 years old, isn’t there at least a chance that he can play for us? That’s all I’m saying. He may not be Will Shields or Willie Roaf, but he could end up being pretty good. I suppose if Chris Terry isn’t up to the task, or gets in trouble again, we may find out.

Svitek, was on the light side last season as far as strength goes, maybe he bulked up in the biceps …..and it sounds as though he added some extra pounds at the same time…He does have instincts…if his power has improved then they may be seeing him play this year some.
