No surprises there, as the Wills thoroughly dominated this group from start to finish. I wish a few of the old timers would have received more votes, mainly a few of the AFL standouts, but what can you do. The Wills were dominant forces and you know the old adage — “out of sight out of mind.” Will Shields realistically has a chance to walk away with The COAT, especially in the wake of his recent retirement.

Next up, The COAT DL Group:

DL:

  • Buck Buchanan
  • Curly Culp
  • Bill Maas
  • Art Still
  • Neil Smith
  • Dan Saleaumua
  • Jerry Mays (new)
  • Jared Allen (new)

Just let us know if you want anyone added and be sure to vote!

I went with Art Still.  With all due respect to Dan and Buck, he was the tallest DE at the time and teams had to scheme around him.  I'll admit I'm a little partical having played b-ball with his brother at Billy Jewel.

I was just meaning all the donkey voters stuffing the box for Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy SMITH..lol
hahahahahaha

They have their own site coming out this week... but actually, eventually we'll have a lot of back and forth stuff between the two sites.

do we have donkey fans on this site.....
just joking.

But still half-Donkey, which is inexcusable as far as The COAT is concerned.

Yes, I got to meet him and DT when I was younger. We sat by Neils unlces and he got me autographs and meet some of the players after a game. He is a very nice guy.

Big Chief....
Thanks, I don't think you can go wrong with Saleaumua.
He was a great player for us...maybe the last really good DT we had.

And Smith is one of the nicest players to have played for us but to leave, for the Donkeys... and even say it was for a ring...man, he left DT, and Edwards, and the rest of the team hanging in the winds.
Not to mention in came Hicks.

I am sorry but Neil Smith got his ring and most glory when he was a Bronco and I cant vote for a half-donkey

I absolutely think Buck should win this group. Neil Smith was great, but it's hard to forgive what he did. Especially when it comes to handing out a Chiefs award. This is coming from a guy that had an official No. 90 jersey and used Smith's swing celebration back during my high school glory days. I loved Smith, but it's hard to consider him for The COAT.

the only ones i've seen are saleaumua and allen, so i went dan.

Nice to see Buck getting some love!

now, now... you know that *BUCK* ran a 4.4....lol

And like you said earlier
we don't have players play both sides of the ball...
on an all the time basis today either,
we have gotten allot more specialized,
Although the first year with the CHIEFS we did have *Tony G.* block a punt thats right folks he blocked a punt.

And we do have to view each of them as to what they did with and against the players they played with at the time.

Thats why I picked *BUCK* because he is in the HALL,
the one in CANTON, OHIO.

That just doesn't happen in today's game, though. Lineman have gotten too big and kick returners too fast. Devin Hester runs like a 4.2, I doubt any of those guys ran faster than in the high 4.6s. That's why it is so hard to compare players from different ages.

just a side note as to these D-lineman,

It shows the D-lines speed when you see that they
had five linemen who ran back kicks and punts...
just goes to show what speed and ability they had.

And your right about Sheilds and the COAT, he will be in my top four players, to consider at the end of this voting.

Buck was *THE MAN*,...
If anyone gets the chance to watch the old games, either via video or rebroadcast on cable...pay attention to the middle of that D-line.....
he simply new how to play...with speed and power

And he was a very HUMBLE man.He would always credit the D-backs for what that awesome D-line accomplished.

Saleaumua, was a bad ass player in his own right as well.

And for the record I dont like smith the traitor, put him on the donkey listings...hahahaha j/k
