(Yes, I’m going to the well again. He leaves me with no choice when he writes articles like this.)
If Jason Whitlock is known for anything — besides going out of his way to take controversial stances and making enemies, that is — it’s his ceaseless bashing of Kansas City Chiefs GM Carl Peterson.
Much of the time Whitlock is right — like when he blasted Peterson last year for shelving Jason Dunn for the 2006 playoffs in order not to lose fourth-string QB Casey Printers.
And you gotta love the “King Carl” moniker he gave Peterson.
Sometimes Whitlock bashes Peterson just for the sake of bashing him, though. Whenever he’s too busy being Big Sexy and hasn’t done his Chiefs homework, it seems that he just slides back into the pattern of calling out King Carl.
Occasionally, he’s dead on, but this definitely isn’t one of those times. Whitlock is dead wrong about King Carl this time around, because Peterson is handling the Trent Green situation the right way.
Let me repeat myself here — Peterson is absolutely handling the Trent Green situation the right way.
Peterson’s playing poker with Trent and the Miami Dolphins. When you go all in you don’t fold on the river card. You go all in all the way, for better or worse trying to come out with the better hand. Not only will this allow the Chiefs to get as much as they possibly can in exchange for Trent, but it also shows guys like Jared Allen and Larry Johnson who’s boss. This is how Bill Belichick conducts his biz, and I’d say that business in Foxboro has been pretty good over the last six, seven years or so.
I do agree that Trent is playing the martyr, Kansas City’s Football Jesus if you will. What I vehemently disagree with, however, is that the Chiefs owe Trent anything whatsoever. The Chiefs gave Trent a starting job and big bucks when no other team would. If anybody owes in this situation it is Trent. I’ve said it a hundred times, and I’ll say it a kajillion more — if anybody owes in this situation it’s Trent. He’ll owe the Chiefs even more when he gets a cushy media job as a direct result of the stardom he gained while wearing the Red, White and Gold.
Everyone knows that I like Jason Whitlock for the most part, so I wish I wouldn’t have to jump on here and call him out. I have no other choice, though — someone has to keep it real when it comes to the Trent Green situation, and with King Carl involved it’s sure as hell not going to be Jabba the Whitlock. So, it’s the A-Train or nobody at all. I’m extremely annoyed, Jason, so I had to go there. If we ever meet please don’t do Yokozuna’s finisher on me. I’ll promise to take it easy on you when you actually give Peterson some much-deserved credit. Nobody keeps any job for as long as he’s been our GM without doing lots of things right.
John Clayton has annoyed me as well. Basically anyone who has the audacity to come out and say that someone who is making $7 mil for something they love doing is being treated unfairly, yeah, I’m not going to agree with them at all.
