ChiefStock: Meet Ean Randolph

by Chiefs

In my last RealFootball365.com article I wrote…

Ean Randolph, WR, South Florida:

Randolph, who was the Big East’s Special Teams Player of the Year last season, has the chance to make the team strictly as a return specialist now that Dante Hall is now the other I-70 team’s Human Joystick. He’s a little slow, as evidenced by his 4.5 40 time, and definitely doesn’t possess that coveted Devin Hester-esque return man speed. He did return a punt for a touchdown, and also hit pay dirt four times as a receiver.

Don’t be shocked if Randolph is the Chiefs’ primary return specialist come September.

(Photo credit: AP)It looks like that’s exactly what both Ean Randolph and the Kansas City Chiefs expect Randolph to become. Check out this quote from the USF Sports Bulletin:

“I talked to a couple of teams, but Kansas City was the best fit for me,” said Randolph, a receiver who hopes to make the team as a return specialist.

Here’s another quote from a USF fan who stopped by the Warpaint forums to give his .02 on Randolph:

“Ean is very much like Dante Hall….. same build and same explosiveness and some great moves.”

Maximium Draft gives a good post pro-day breakdown on Randolph:

“Ean Randolph, WR/USF: Randolph (5-8 5/8 175) ran a 4.53 forty, had 11 reps, 35.5 vertical, 9’9” broad jump, a 4.11 short shuttle, and a 6.80 3-cone time. He was an excellent punt returner over his career (had a 14.8 avg and 1 TD) and also led the Bulls with 49 receptions and 506 receiving yards. What he lacks in size, he makes up for with explosiveness and speed.”

I actually even dug up some YouTube footage of Randolph. Watch the clip — he looks like the ex-Factor.

Will Ean Randolph become the Human Joystick 2? Maybe, but first he has to make the team. That’s no guarantee considering his size and that Jeff Webb also returns kicks. I hope Randolph sticks, though. I’d like to see us have a true return specialist, and I’d also prefer that Webb just focused solely on offense.
