I really liked the cuts this year, and also how we for the most part seem to be relying on the draft to improve as opposed to going out and signing a bunch of old, big name players for a bunch of money. Harris is still pretty young, edwards is not. but, i doubt either would have costed a ton. edwards was a very smart pick in terms of the development of derrick johnson too. i'm just so happy we didn't go out and get a guy like randy moss. waste of money and a pick if you ask me.
I think herm's got it spot on with this youth movement thing. B+ based on the whole concept of this off-season.

I would have to agree with most opinions here. Especially, Rockchalk on Allan and my man Herb Taylor. I think those both were late picks that could easily turn into solid players. I would give Carl a B for his off-season but he failed in some areas for me. Especially, since he seemed to fumble the Trent Green, Larry Johnson, and Jared Allen situations. Green I do think he is doing the right thing now not releasing Trent and at least getting something for him. Larry I have no idea whats truly going on there. Did the Chiefs offer a contract that he didn't like? Does he just want out of KC? Who Knows. Jared Allen situation is my least concern out of all three but I think Carl and him could have played things out better than in the media.

Carl's Grade - C

the key thing about this draft, that while it doesnt look great, i trust herm to make the right decisions. for years we were subject to plenty of picks that had a boatload of "potential" under dick vermeil, all with the chance to make pro bowls. well, that only worked out for one (jared allen) of his many draft picks and selecting ryan sims over john henderson could be the most important decision in holding us back from a super bowl win in the last 7 years.

im happy with the d-bo pick, sure i wanted brady but bowe is a stud and a GREAT blocker. so while we didnt address the o-line situation, our blocking will be much better on the outside than it has been in years past. i like the turk mcbride pick, im not a huge fan but this is really where my trust of herm comes in. i think he'll start the first 4 games at defensive end while allen is suspended and after that be the first backup. "tank" will start from day one and is a GREAT pick in my opinion, as long as herm can keep him under control. i think he can....

kolby smith and justin medlock both probably would have fallen a little bit more, but they will both be players that see action next season and medlock should be our kicker for a long time. remember we drafted a punter (dustin colquitt) in the 3rd round a couple years back so hopefully our special teams will be set for awhile now. herb taylor and michael allan are both high-reward low-risk prospects. they both could turn into starters in the future, but for now wont see the field all too often. taylor should probably be thrown in the competition for RT along with sampson, svitek and parquet. allan probably wont make the team but with a year on the practice squad (and possible departure of jason dunn) could learn a lot from tony g and could even be his predeccesor.

OVERALL GRADE: B

If you look at what we are trying to do, this was a great offseason. Herm believes in Defense. Carl tried it Dick's way, beefing up on the offense, and that got us no where. I truely believe that our D will be in the top ten this year.

I know our offensive line is not what is was years ago, but I think we will be fine. D-Bo will struggle early, but really come on after the first four weeks or so.

Overall B+ boarding on an A-
