There is a rumor circulating (heard it from some Bears fans I know) that the Chicago Bears are interested in Trent Green. No, I don’t have a link, or even a trustworthy insider source, but I wanted to take a look at this possibility.
Why? Because even though this is just a rumor right now, it does seem like a possibility.
To me, the Bears make more sense for Green than the Miami Dolphins do. Green has two or three good years left in him max. While it will take Miami that long to even think about contending for a Super Bowl (I would know, I live here and cover the Dolphins), Chicago went to the big game just last year. Green likely didn’t want to go to Cleveland or Detroit because he thought he’d have no chance of winning it all with either franchise. He couldn’t possibly feel the same way about Da Bears. This has nothing to do with the weather, folks.
Also, the Bears don’t seem content with Rex Grossman still the starter at quarterback. Bears head coach Lovie Smith is always diplomatic when asked about Grossman, but you get the feeling that he isn’t totally on board. Why would he be? Grossman just doesn’t have “it.” And don’t even get me started on Brian Griese. Smith and GM Jerry Angelo surely have some interest in Green, given the current QB situation in the Windy City.
We’ll see if this story develops over the next little while, or if it was just another unsubstantiated message board rumor all along. For the Kansas City Chiefs sake, I hope there is some truth behind this gossip. I would love to see Mueller and the Phins take it up the tailpipe for trying to lowball us for Green.
