Some good stuff today, primarily pertaining to our AFC West rivals:
Arrowhead Pride breaks down the offseason thus far. It’s a good summary for Chiefs fans who are looking to get caught up to speed.
The KC Star takes a look at the freshly released preseason schedule. Pretty serendipitous that the Chiefs will likely end up dealing with Trent Green no matter what during the preseason, whether it’s as a Chief, Dolphin or Brown. That is unless the Lions truly are serious about Green.
SI’s Peter King gushes about new Raiders head coach Lane Kiffen. Says he’s Jon Gruden all over again, sans the ego. Raiders owner Al Davis made a very clever move last year by hiring Art Shell for one year. Davis knew the Raiders weren’t going anywhere, so he hired a coach that he knew would tank the season, even if it was unintentionally. Now the Raiders have the first-overall pick in the upcoming draft and expectations for Kiffen in ’07 aren’t too high. King also has a feeling that Davis will select Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson with the first pick.
Fox Sports’ Adam Schein thinks the Bolts should deal future star RB Michael Turner. Honestly, I am more scared about him getting a dramatically increased workload and playing L.J. to L.T.’s Priest Holmes than I am of the likely second and third rounders the Chargers would receive for him. On the flip side, a team like the Packers or Bills could upgrade their offense dramatically by adding Turner. I see him getting moved. He’s too good to be a back-up and the Chargers are desperate to win now.
Six of ESPN’s NFL experts picked who they think is the best defensive player in the league. Shawne Merriman and Champ Bailey led the way with two votes each. I envy the Bolts and the Broncos, as we haven’t had a player like that since D.T. was in his prime.
