George Watch: The Beginning

by Chiefs

Yes, quarterback Jeff George, the one who hasn’t thrown an NFL pass in like six years, is trying to play in the NFL again… really. However, since one of my favorite sports journalists, Kansas City’s Jason Whitlock, is a die-hard George fan, I’m backing this.

I’ve also always liked George, believe it or not. He’s always involved in some form of controversy, and, despite his volatile nature, he’s talented (Randy Moss has stated that George is his favorite of all the quarterbacks he’s ever played with.). My brother and I thought George was like 41-43, but he’s actually only 39. Plenty of signal-callers have been back-ups, or even starters, at that age. The Atlanta Falcons, George’s second team, are the most likely team to give him a shot at this point

Still, I think Whitlock will campaign for the Chiefs to take a look at him, given their current QB conundrum. Just look at this Whitlock excerpt from his AOL Sports piece “10 Rules for Rolling With Big Sexy”:

“1. I’m a homer for one thing and one thing only — my old high school quarterback Jeff George. Hey, we go way back and the dude is one loyal cat. His mom gives me a hug and a kiss every time I see her. His wife is one of the red-hot, infamous “Coryell sisters” from Warren Central High. No Jeff George bashing is allowed.”

More power to you big man. That’s something we have in common — we rep our boys. I hate the Broncos and ‘Boys, but I’m a fan of both Josh Buhl (I think he’s still a Bronco) and Terrance Newman. Both used to party and kick it at our infamous Little Apple crib on 1006 Kearney back in the day.

Anyway, I respect and understand Whitlock’s stance and, because of both that and the sheer entertainment value, we’ll keep you posted with our exclusive ArrowheadAddict.com feature “George Watch.” Consider it an ode to “Big Sexy.” Look, there’s always a chance that the Chiefs will ink George and become his eighth squad. Yes, his comeback is a bit unexpected, but it’s not like he’s Todd “Marijuanavich” or Dan McGwire.
